All across the United States probably one of the most common games you hear about that involves gambling is bingo. Bingo is a game of chance and is usually played by a large number of people. To be honest you really only need two people to play, but in a game this size the prizes may be limited. Often bingo is played in a community center, dinner club, church or other organization. The prizes, sometimes money can very as much as no prize to fairly extravagant prizes. The image one gets may be of a large number of senior citizens playing bingo in a basement somewhere, but the truth is that there is no age restriction to most bingo games and anyone can attend.

Bingo is a game played on a game card, where each player receives their own card with a grid of five by five squares. Across the top of the card are the letters b-i-n-g-o that correspond to each of the columns of boxes. In each of the boxes is a number. When game play begins a letter and number called out to the hall and anyone who has the corresponding number in the column with the corresponding letter can mark that on their card. Game play continues in the same fashion with a letter and number being called out until someone gets five marked boxes in a row. The marked boxes can be diagonal, horizontal, or vertical. When someone has five marked boxes in a row, they yell out “Bingo!”.

In most games the winner of each round receives a prize, which is either an amount of money or an item. In some games the prize is announced before each round or awarded at the end of each round. At some tournaments the winner is allowed to choose from a number of items. Bingo continues to be a fairly popular game in the United States.

“Place your bets!” says the dealers at the tables. The room is filled mostly with electronic games, primarily slot machines. Some slot machines have levers but it’s really just for show, because using one of these machines requires only the push of a button. Separated but prominent in the tall ceiling room is an area of tables covered with green felt. This is where the call of the dealers come from and the card games are played. In this area people are playing black jack, roulette and craps as well as other card games. This description is of the casino, the quintessential United States gambling establishment these days.

Gambling today in the United States takes place all over both legally and illegally. From the office pools for college football to the huge extravagant casinos, gambling is fairly widespread today in the United States. Of course there are still the race tracks, although interest in this type of gambling is decreasing in recent years. Betting at tracks can also take place at off-site betting locations. There a large numbers establishments around that are based primarily on gambling. Since Native American reservations began setting up organized casinos starting in the 1980s, casinos are far more widely available. This may have something to do with the decrease in interest in betting at horse races but no clear correlation can be drawn.

The most widely spread type of gambling takes place in almost every state and can take place at almost any grocery store or gas station convenience store. Yes, the state lottery. Included in the state lottery is a jackpot type drawing as well as any number of types of scratch tickets. The lottery, which today is often for millions of dollars is cheap, often only a dollar and funds raised from this go directly to the state.

Historically, it wasn’t so easy to go to a Casino in the United States. Casinos were limited, often to some far away place, and to spend time at the casino one had to travel a great distance, so going to the casino was more of a monumental occurrence rather than a daily option. Today, casinos are available all over the United States, well, most often on Native American Land where states have no jurisdiction.

In addition to Casinos, gambling on casino type games has become even more available to the online user. All one needs to do these days is turn on the computer in their home, no need to even put on shoes, and start gambling. If gambling has become more of a problem for more people in the United States or for anyone in the world, it could easily be related directly to this accessibility.

For many people the access to casinos and online gambling is a pass time that they are thankful to have and it causes no real problem in their life. This may be true for the majority of users. But for some, the accessibility has made their problems with gambling that much worse.

The answer to helping people with gambling addiction problems is not found in limiting the accessibility although for some of these people it may decrease some aspects to their problem. Problem gamblers are addicts and need help like any other person suffering from addiction. When someone wins a jackpot in gambling where does the money come from? Initially you may think the money comes from the casino, that has money. The truth is that the money comes from a number of different places, but for the most part, the money someone wins from a jackpot, comes from the money lost in the same games by other players. A casino is in business because the business is profitable. In other words, a casino or other gambling establishment makes enough money to pay off any winners, pays all of it’s employees, and make a profit. Understanding all of this it is easy to see that the odds must be in favor of the casino, or the house.

Gambling is a game that many people enjoy for fun and excitement. You may enjoy poker, blackjack, slot machines and many other games found in a casino.  If you are gambling for the sake of making a profit, then most people will surely be disappointed, because most people will lose money in the process. It is the only way that one person can win a jackpot.

The great lesson here is to treat gambling as a game. If you enjoy the game and can limit the amount of money you lose to within your “disposable” income, then by all means enjoy yourself.  The best way to do this is to enter the game with the amount of money you can loose. Stop playing when it is gone. It is the cost of the entertainment is one way to think of it. The image of living it up with friends in Las Vegas or another place with a casino is an image that many people imagine for themselves at one time. The image usually includes taking in a show and forms of entertainment along with gambling. Remember that is entertainment and not necessarily a way to make money and you will leave the casino, feeling good about your experience.

Gambling activities and gambling as a game has been prevalent in society from times immemorial and today in many countries it is a multi-billion dollar industry and fast approaching the trillion dollar mark. The reason for this could be manifold. The first and foremost reason is that man by nature does not like to put in hard work and believes in some amount of luck to see them through. Though this a short route to success which does not always work still people believe there is no harm trying. However, the fact remains that in the quest for becoming rich such gamblers, and there are millions of them, make the gambling joint owners rich and successful.
There are many types of gambling games such as poker, slots, etc. and each one of them work on the theory of probability. There is no trick involved and the gaming machines have been programmed in such a way that they will dish out some jackpot winners once that probability theory condition is fulfilled. The ratio of probability varies from one game to another, from one gambling joint to another but the moot point is that very, very few people have achieved success by taking up gambling as a serious profession or career.

Gambling today has grown beyond international boundaries and time and distance are no longer constraints. Sitting here in some remote town in India, we engage in gaming activities in a gambling joint in Las Vegas. This is possible because of the power of computer and the internet and slowly mobile phones are also fast joining the ranks to become another communication mode for gambling activities.

There are different types of gamblers; gamblers who play for fun and recreation, gamblers who are basically notorious people always on the lookout for troubled waters to fish in and the last category are those gamblers who suffer from a phenomenon called gambling addiction.
