On Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 the broadcasters of Colorado are teaming together to air a Telly and Emmy Award winning documentary called Childhelp Crystal Darkness aimed at fighting back against the scourge of crystal methamphetamine. Nearly every broadcaster in the state will be participating and they will be pre-empting all programming to air this in unison. It's an unprecedented event in the history of the state.
Thanks to the generous donated participation by local broadcasters, the program airs at 6:30 p.m. on nearly every TV station in Colorado! Several radio stations will be airing an audio version at the same time. There is also a Spanish version of the documentary that will air on Spanish TV stations at 5:30 p.m. that same day.

The Colorado Alliance for Drug Endangered Children (Colorado DEC) is committed to supporting children, families, organizations, and communities affected by substance abuse through increased collaboration, coordination of services, and systems integration.
Drug endangered children live in dangerous drug environments and the historic response to these children has been fractured and discipline-specific leaving children unrecognized and underserved. This ineffective and inefficient response leaves children in danger and is a factor in the inter-generational transfer of substance abuse and criminality.
While many services exist to address the needs of drug endangered children and their families, the primary challenge is in coordinating the social and political systems charged with preventing, intervening, and treating these cases.
Colorado DEC facilitates collaborative efforts across government and private sectors to:
Prevent substance abuse
Provide treatment and recovery resources to children and families
Aggressively break the cycles of substance abuse
Colorado DEC has partnered with the Colorado State Methamphetamine Task Force to address these issues together. This partnership provides a link between policy makers and local grassroots movements. In addition, 13 learning sites in Colorado communities have been selected to highlight best practices, review model programs, and establish a statewide network of partners.
